I will persevere..
While it can take time to get reluctant children to cooperate, I am usually rewarded for plain old perseverance and persistence.
With young kids I Let them explore
When I’m photographing on location the setting is usually new to the kids.
So I let them get comfortable in the surroundings first, before attempting to take their photo.
Because we’re outdoors, I encourage them to run around for a while to burn off some energy before I start taking photos.
I actually like to get them walking and running in the photos because then they really look like they are having fun.
Follow the Kids!
Sometimes its a good idea for all the adults, including me, to let the kids’ lead the way.
At Ruby’s age she’s not going to be listening to me anyway ha ha. We had the best afternoon running after Ruby and jumping in photos, like this one, with her. Ruby, you’re a star!
What about teenagers being…well, teenagers, you say!
Well, I am going to give you the same advice I gave Owen and Corey:
Just have fun and be silly together as a couple and let me sort the kids out!
Look at these three, brother and sisters, Evan, Gabby and Jessica who were not too happy at being there at first.
But, encouraged to have a bit of fun, when it was their turn, they threw in a guitar and some singing and ended up having a laugh together and we got some super family pics of them.
